About Kevin Toqe
Growing up in California, 26-year-old singer-songwriter Kevin Toqe didn't have to look far to find reflections of God in the surrounding landscape. The San Francisco Bay Area was were he developed musically with the help of some talented mentors and hours of practice. Now, through the writing and performing landscape, Kevin has developed a medium for communicating God's love through song and verse.
The original album, Love Is, conveys the desire to see God's love in all parts of life, and with the release of his second album, Home Is, Kevin has continued to communicate God's love in the same hopeful style as the first. Every album track invites you to listen in on a musical conversation with God, each reflecting on how real life comes rarely as expected, but that joy is just as real and possible in every situation.
Continuing the theme of Love Is, the new title track, Home Is, has become another significant picture for how Kevin wants to see his life on earth in relation to God, drawing parallels to relatable personal relationships. He elaborates, saying:
"God gave the earthly relationship between a man and a woman to reflect what it means to feel at home in a relationship with Jesus. The feeling of home in both relationships is not confined to a location, and the best aspects in the earthly version only begin to tell of the Divine one."
Listeners of Kevin's first album, Love Is, will find a noticeable progression into his second, both lyrically and musically. Greater emphasis on rhythm and instrumental layers reflect the influences of James Taylor and John Mayer along with flavors of Sara Groves and Colbie Caillat. Many of the same musicians lent their talents again for Home Is, helping keep a similar feel as the first album, while the engineering and mixing talents of Mike Burns added that extra polish.
With time in California coming to a close, Kevin is looking forward to his future in Mississippi as of early 2010. No doubt God will use all those experiences to shape his next album and point listeners to where their Home Is.
Kevin would like to thank some of the following musical influences in his life: Dan Vigus (first band teacher), Steve Muller (music pastor), Mike Busbee, Steve Bowman (former Counting Crows drummer), Pastor Roger Thrower, Max Butler (guitarist/worship leader), Derrek Phillips, & Pastor James Johnson-Hill.
